Monate Private Game Reserve (Monate PGR) is a 3200Ha share block game reserve owned by forty shareholders. The reserve falls under the Thabazimbi Municipal District in Limpopo and lies approximately two kilometres west of the quaint Bushveld town of Rooiberg.
A mere two and a half hour drive from Tshwane (Pretoria), this exclusive reserve offers its shareholders and their guests a welcome escape to the pristine Bushveld region with its magical sounds and beautiful vistas, golden sunsets and starry nights.
Monate PGR was established in 1992. Since its inception it has operated as a private game reserve and been utilised by its shareholders for low density residential, conservation and recreational purposes.
The reserve is home to a wide variety of fauna and flora which makes game viewing, birding, walking and cycling on the reserve an absolute pleasure. Wildlife roam free and some dangerous species such as venomous snakes, hippo, and leopards may be encountered. Within the ambit of the reserve’s rules and regulations shareholders, however, enjoy the freedom to conduct their own game drives. During daylight hours, they may also walk, cycle and fish (on a catch and release basis) at their own risk on the reserve.
Monate PGR not only provides shareholders with an exclusive nature retreat but also plays an integral part in nature conservation. The reserve operates with a nature conservation ethic and is proud to be seen as an example of what can be achieved from a conservation perspective on a relatively small privately owned portion of land.
Monate PGR actively supports several conservation-based projects on the reserve, in the greater Rooiberg Bewaria region and adjacent communities.
